The Online Course Development and Advanced Online Course Development workshops are typically offered each term:

  • Fall (October/November)
  • J-Term (Online Course Development only)
  • Spring (March/April)
  • Summer (June/July)

IDT reserves the right to modify the training schedule and offerings based on campus needs, attendance, and availability of IDT staff.

 

Online Course Development Specialization Certificate

Earn an Online Course Development Specialization Certificate by attending the following 6 workshops:

  1. Introduction to Online Learning
  2. Backward Design Step 1: Developing Course Objectives and Priorities
  3. Backward Design Step 2: Developing Course Assessments
  4. Backward Design Step 3: Developing the Learning Plan
  5. Designing and Organizing your Course in Blackboard
  6. Interaction – Communication and Collaboration

By earning this certificate, you will be able to:

  • Discuss the benefits and challenges of online learning.
  • Develop behaviorally-based learning objectives for a course.
  • Apply the steps of Backwards Design to plan and create outcomes-based assessments, evaluation criteria, and learning activities.
  • Utilize principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) to design and facilitate an online course.
  • Evaluate and discuss the ways in which online interaction can facilitate learning and help to build an online learning community.
  • Develop opportunities for interaction in an online course.

 

Advanced Online Course Development Specialization Certificate

You may also earn an Advanced Online Course Development Specialization Certificate by attending the following 4 workshops:

  1. Creating Interactive Content for Your Course
  2. Authentic Assessment
  3. Universal Design for Learning
  4. Open SUNY COTE Quality Review (OSCQR) Rubric

By earning this certificate, you will be able to:

  • Develop at least one authentic assessment aligned with the course objectives.
  • Locate electronic resources including e-books, audio, and video.
  • Design, facilitate, and assess online discussions that promote engagement and mastery of student learning outcomes.
  • Review courses using the OSCQR rubric
